Despite warnings from North Korea that it will launch merciless attacks if South Korea provokes further, South Korea government ordered 4,000 to move to Frontline Island. Meanwhile the US naval aircraft carrier housing 6,000 troops has reached Korean waters as part of military drill. This was planned even before the North Korea’s attack on its island, South Korea said.

Some houses were burnt on the island in artillery attack form North Korea. The island houses a military base of South Korea. But, the residents of the island alleged the reaction from South Korea was too mild. South Korean law makers also criticised the government for not responding properly to the attack. As a result, the Defence Minister of South Korea resigned taking responsibility for the attack.

The US and South Korea urged China to restrain North Korea from further attacks. China urged both sides to observe maximum restraint and called for resumption of six-partite talks.
